, don, we have been on the battleground bus state tour from florida to ohio. people understand the economy is improving. but the real debate is whether it is fast enough and whether mitt romney could have done a better job. in toledo, ohio, today, one of the battle ground counties of ohio, the must win buckeye state, i spoke to mayor bell, he put it out that january 2009, unemployment here was 12.6% in this county. today it is around 7.5, lower than the national average. that is a measurable improvement. that doesn't mean the economy is going on all cylinders right now. but there is measurable improvement, and that becomes -- for big debate, romney saying he could have proved things faster, president obama saying don't return us to policies that got us here in the first place. >> but, ali, when you look at the unemployment rate in ohio now is 7%, below the national average, will people give -- will voters give that credit to john kasich, the republican governor here or does that go to the president? >> that's a good question. yeah. that's exactly the question. in a number of th
department is monitoring the remainder of early voting in miami-dade county, florida because of complaints about long lines in some polling places. the democrats in florida have asked the governor to extend early voter, but governor scott said he will not do that. at the same time the republican national committee sent a letter to election officials in six states trying to make sure voting machines are working properly. those states include nevada, kansas, north carolina, colorado, missouri and ohio. >> reporter: we are in cuyahoga county, downtown cleveland. they have a long history of problems including missing votes and missing voting machines. we were her voting on the acorn scandal. freddy johnson told me he was registered to vote by acorn 73 times. turns out he was just the tip of the iceberg. two election officials were convicted of rigging the 2004 presidential recount. the 2006 voter cards and voting machine keys were lost. employees took vote magazines home to test them and taxi drivers transported the memory cards from the polls that held all the votes. >> there was a systemic b

greevey will be our guest, georgia congresswoman tom price and florida congresswoman debbie wasserman schultz joins us. it's tuesday, november 13th, "starting point" begins right now. >>> morning, welcome, everybody. our "starting point" this morning. breaking news. another top military general has now been linked to the sex scandal that forced out cia director david petraeus. forced him to resign. general john allen, the commander of u.s. and nato forces in afghanistan is now under investigation for alleged inappropriate communications with jill kelley. now investigators are said to be looking into the 20,000 to 30,000 pages of e-mails and other documents that he sent to her. kelley, of course, is the florida woman whose original complaint to the fbi about threatening e-mails inadvertently exposed the affair between general petraeus and paula broadwell. meantime a team of fbi agents searched broadwell's home in charlotte, north carolina, overnight, and spent nearly five hours there wrapping up just after 1:00 in the morning. "wall street journal" is reporting that the fbi agent who launched the petra

petraeus when he was the head in tampa bay, florida in 2010. jill kelley a well-known socialite in tampa bay, married to a, reunient surgeon and she hosted parties for top military brass at central command and would shop with general petraeus' wife holly, their families spent christmas together, and allen exchanged hundreds of e-mails that were 20,000 to 30,000 pages long when printed out with jill kelley and many characterized as being flirtatious but not security-related or dealing with government contracts, her end froms say they were harmless and might have included sweetheart here and there and allen insists he did not have a sexual affair with jill kelley and paula broadwell has hired an attorney. and her father told the newspaper that this is about something else entirely and the truth will come out. there is a lot more that going to come out. you wait-and-see. there is a lot more than meets the eye. she went running this morning but has not spoken to the press. >>shepard: we have learned that both of the generals bought involved with a custody dispute with jill kelly's sister. wh
with jill kelly, the florida socialite whose concern over threatening e-mails led to an investigation that revealed an affair between cia director david petraeus and his biographer, paula broadwell. a pentagon official told reporters allen who commands the war in afghanistan is adamant he did nothing wrong. a senior official close to allen tells cnn of kelly there is no affair, she's a bored socialite. a u.s. official says there appears to be nothing criminal involved. but allen is now under investigation for what is called inappropriately flirtatious e-mails to kelly. >> secretary directed it be referred to inspector general of department of defense. >> the fbi found up to 35,000 pages of documents, some dating back two years during the investigation. according to a senior official close to allen, one message the afghan commander sent warned kelly she had been threatened. the official says allen had received an anonymous message, now believed to be from broadwell. the pentagon was called in because allen is subject to military law. but why did this only come out now in public view? >

to a deadly shooting in florida. a man fires into a car full of teenagers killing a 17-year-old. the death of jordan davis is already being compared to the trayvon martin case where an unarmed black teen was shot by a volunteered neighborhood watch. the lawyer for the accused in this case says there is no comparison. i want to bring in martin savidge who has been following the story for us. why does she say that? what are the similarities and differences here? >> there are a couple of things. it was black friday, 7:40 at night. four teens, all african-americans, sitting at a gas station and then pulls up this gentleman who is white, 45 years old, and starts complaining about the loud music. everybody admits that it's loud. somehow that complaint turns into a confrontation. claims that one of the young men starts cursing at him and making threats and then he says that somebody pointed a gun in his direction. he happened to have his own concealed was licensed to have and he fired eight or nine shots into the suv and then amazingly he drives off. he says he didn't know that he left behind a y
't it possible that the fbi, they started investigating this because some woman named jill kelley in florida contacted her fbi friend reportedly and said i'm getting harassing emails from this woman, it turns out to be broadwell. the fbi starts to look into it because they are friends with kelley and they find paula broadwell's emails and it turns out she is having an affair with the cia director which raises a whole host of other questions. when they find that out isn't it, it's not good, but it's petraeus' private business. it's an affair he shouldn't have had. we'll tell somebody but we don't have tow bring it to a white house level. >> i disagree with that. the director of the fbi, nothing how central general petraeus was, the fact that general petraeus was going around the world literally negotiating special arrangements with other countries that he had unique relationships w. he was representing the u.s. he cut u put us in an if any of those people out there would have learned about these indiscretions if you will. the president should have known and made the final decision, do i want
